17-02-12 - Another presentation of the professional ML course with Data Science Middle East in Dubai.

17-02-01 - Update on the industrial diagnostics tool I have developed with SKF will be rolled out in their factory in India. (It is already in use in their factories in Italy, Austria and China).

17-01-02 - I will be supervising Henrik Malmgren who will be working with startup company Refind, and will be using deep convolutional neural networks for identifying battery types from images/video.

17-01-02 - I will be supervising Maria Svensson and Elias Lundeqvist who will be working with FOI, using deep learning techniques for author identification of social media.

17-01-02 - I will be supervising Adam Ruul who will be working with FOI, using a combination of network and characteristic clustering techniques to identification types of people following official twitter accounts.

16-12-13 - Presenting the statistical machine learning course in Dubai again (with Data Science Middle East). We've had great feedback!

16-11-01 - I am working with BizOne on a prediction tool for demographic statistics in Swedish municipalities.

16-10-22 - Back in Dubai to give a second run of my professional course on statistical machine learning. Organized by Data Science Middle East.

16-09-01 - I will be supervising Anna Martin who will be working with iZettle on predicting customer churn.

16-07-01 - "Multilayer analysis of online illicit marketplaces", written by Davide Vega D'Aurelio, Matteo Magnani, Danilo Montesi , Luca Rossi ‎and myself won best poster at EISIC 2016.

16-07-20 - Providing inhouse training to the economist, giving an introduction to statistical machine learning. Should be fun since I have always enjoyed their magazine!

16-07-05 - “Multi-Domain Alias Matching Using Machine Learning”, written by Fredrik Johansson, Lisa Kaati, Amendra Shrestha, and myself, will be presented at ENIC 2016.

16-07-01 - "Multilayer analysis of online illicit marketplaces", written by Davide Vega D'Aurelio, Matteo Magnani, Danilo Montesi , Luca Rossi ‎and myself will be presented at EISIC 2016.

16-07-01 - Back in Chengdu for my yearly two week participation in Sichuan University UIP program. I will be teaching intensive versions of my AI and Statistical Machine Learning courses.

16-06-23 - My Essentials of Data Analytics and Machine Learning book is now finished and available as a modularized course online through the European Data Science Academy (EDSA).

16-06-22 - In Dubrovnik, Croatia for the European Data Science Academy (EDSA). EDSA is a Horizon 2020 project funded by the EU. Dubrovnik is very beautiful (also it is the filming location for King's Landing in Game of Thrones).

16-06-10 - Meeting with Future Learn at their offices in the British Library (very nice place to meet) to start planning for a Machine Learning MOOC under the auspices of the EDSA project.

16-05-01 - I will be supervising Babak Toghiani-Rizi ‎who will be working with FOI to develop deep reinforcement learning techniques for creating autonomous agents in military simulations.

16-04-24 - Presenting a professional course with Data Science Middle East on Statistical Machine Learning in Dubai.

16-03-01 - I will be supervising George Ziogas with Yan Shao. George will be using deep convolutional networks for optical character recognition of Chinese characters.

16-03-01 - I will be supervising Simon Bergström. He will be comparing different non-linear feature transformation techniques.

16-02-01 - I will be supervising Måns Rantzer. He will be doing his exjobb with Kronofogden performing uplife modelling to determine which people should be chosen to receive reminder letters.

16-01-15 - I will be supervising Anna Nilsson in cooperation with >Daniel Löwenborg. Anna will be working on modeling the density of archeological finds in Östergötland.

16-01-15 - I will be supervising Yu Hao. He will be comparing density estimation techniques, in particular looking at the relative performance and speed of the Delauney Tessellation Field Estimation technique compared with traditional approached.

15-12-10 - Successful completion of the second stage of the bank transaction classification project with BizOne and Instantor.

15-12-02 - I will be attending the EDSA workshop in London over the next few days.

15-11-20 - Update on the SKF industrial diagnostics application Our prototype system is up and running in factories in Italy, Germany and Austria.

15-11-15 - I am cooperating with >Daniel Löwenborg to estimate the density of archelogical finds based on a variety of geological and spatial data. Looks really interesting!

15-10-07 - Second stage on classifying bank transactions in order to provide an analysis of an individual's financial position with BizOne and Instantor.

15-09-09 - My paper with Maxime Meyer and Lisa Kaati, A Step Towards Detecting Online Grooming - Identifying Adults Pretending to be Children has been presented at EISIC 2015.

15-09-09 - My paper with Ali Fisher, Enghin Omer, Nico Prucha and Lisa Kaati, Detecting Jihadist Messages on Twitter has been presented at EISIC 2015.

15-09-03 - I will be supervising Linda Virkkala and Johanna Haglund, who will be doing their Master thesis at Scania, building models to predict starter engine failure based on vehicle warning codes and workshop history.

15-09-01 - Time to begin the AI course at Uppsala University.

15-08-17 - Finished the summer Statistical Machine Learning. A really positive response from those who completed it, though we lost a few students when they realized the amount of math involved :).

15-07-01 - For the next two weeks I will be teaching intensive versions of my AI and Statistical Machine Learning courses at Sichuan University as part of their University Immersion Program.

15-06-08 - Running the Statistical Machine Learning summer course at Uppsala University.

15-06-01 - Working on classifying bank transactions in order to provide an analysis of an individual's financial position. NLP involved in analysis of the transaction description. I am working with BizOne and the end client is Instantor. Currently working on an initial prototype.

15-04-23 - I will be supervising Nazanin Afsarmanesh, who is doing her master thesis with Matteo Magnani on analysying multi-networks. These are used in social network analysis when anlysing multiple networks in a single model.

15-04-17 - I will be supervising Tim Isbister, who is doing his master thesis with Lisa Kaati on time series anomaly detection. He will be looking at detecting anomalous intensity in extreme right forum users posting habits.

15-04-04 - I will be working on the Horizon 2020 European Data Science Academy project. Plan is to research and develop a modern data science curriculum that can serve as a prototype for European institutions. Looks really exciting.

15-03-23 - I will be supervising Kajsa Norin, who is doing her master thesis with Gavagai on analysing discussion types and view convergence in internet forums.

15-02-01 - I will be supervising Enghin Omer, who is doing his Master thesis with FOI on detecting terrorist accounts on twitter.

15-01-31 - I am leading a group of Master students who are applying to the Uppsala Kommun cleantech challenge. We are creating a proposal around automatic, real time traffic routing. Have a look at our presentation and submission.

15-01-29 - I will be supervising Hanna Blomquist and Johanna Möller who are doing their Master thesis with SIDA and will be looking at topic identification in the context of accurately codifying aid projects. Among more common approaches, we will be looking at using auto-encoders for identifying anomalously codified projects.

15-01-26 - I will be supervising Erik Forslid and Niklas Wiken who are doing their Master thesis with Gavagai on identifying sarcasm in social media. This is going to be a hard one!

15-01-26 - I will be supervising Maxime Meyer who is doing his Master thesis with FOI on identifying sexual grooming in social media.

15-01-24 - I will be supervising Elinor Forsman who is doing her Master thesis with FOI and will be looking at identifying new drugs on the dark web using LSA and Random Indexing.

14-12-04 - Lisa Kaati and I will be cooperating on alias detection.

14-12-03 - Tjark Weber and I are looking for a Master student to work on applying machine learning techniques to SMT theorem prover selection.

14-11-29 - Just completed delivering the Fundamentals of Machine Learning course with Persontyle in London.

14-11-01 - Over the next 6+ months I will be responsible for integrating the Uppsala Machine Learning Arena with the Center for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (CIM). This will include organizing the machine learning speakers for the weekly CoSy seminar series and involvement in the mc2 consultancy iniative.

14-10-02 - I will be supervising Andreas Yacob and Olof Nilsson in their master theses on anomaly detection in social media timeseries. They will be undertaking this work with Gavagai.

14-09-01 - Semester starting: As usual this time of year, I'll be teaching the AI course at Uppsala University.

14-08-15 - I will be supervising Adam Elvander in his master thesis on recommender systems for e-marketplaces. He will be undertaking this work with Plink.

14-07-21 - Returning to Sweden after my stay at Sichuan University. The program here has been extremely impressive. I hope I'll make it back next year!
